Merlin - Ancient Yew Tree
Just a little concept sketch of merlin sat in a yew tree by the lake of Avalon. (Can you even see him in there my goodness). Safe to say, I’ve been planning something like this for some time and although it may be months before I can even start it, there’s not harm in creating some concept images, right? :) it’s going to be so good when I actually make the real project thing
Why a yew? Well, they’re the oldest in britain, they can live with hollow trunks for years, their trunks often split in two, and they are linked to death and resurrection a lot due to their toxicity and their longevity (some are a good few thousand years old), and have commonly be held in high regard to those who view them as being powerful and naturally avert evil, despite their toxicity and despite their unimpressive leaves and berries. They’re just pretty damn good.

Ahhh thank you! yeah the mane was my favourite part, so many colours to include! :D

thanks! :)
moniker-padacklyte asked: I'd just like to say that your Merlin - Unicorn picture was absolutely beautiful and definitely worth all the effort you no doubt put into it. It's people like you that inspire me to keep working hard at the things I love.
*_* ahh you’re so lovely! Thank you so much blimey
oh goodness no problem at all keep working hard!
Merlin - Unicorn (x)
Been working on this for quite some time and I’m so happy I’m finally finished! Although this does mean I have nothing else on the go anymore… hmm.
Merlin - Bluebells (x)
My first finished water colour, I think! I kinda messed up some colours, and I still can’t paint noses, but hey, I’m getting there at least. I quite like it.
21x14cm
so yesterday I found an old ink pen and a box of ink from my grandma’s old watercolour set (presumably this thing is 50+ years old by now) and I tried refilling the pen with the ink, thinking the squishy bit at the top of the ink pot was like some spongey to let the ink out slowly
I squeezed it and ink exploded everywhere like on my face my clothes, all over my hand
anyway so my mum bought me some fountain pens to use until I’ve soaked out the dried ink from the nib of the old pen.
don’t use ancient indian ink and think there wont be random dried up lumps of ink in there guys
Skysweep - dragon. Oil paints, some kind of canvas that is probably just under a meter high. Maybe. (x)
Right so I can’t decide if this is finished or not, but I’ll not be adding anything to it any time soon. I finally just got on with it and added the legs that I’d been fretting over, and it’s not perfect by any means I’d wanted to make the dragon far more detailed, but this is only my second large-ish oil canvas piece so one step at a time.
I might revisit this in a few months if I want to change or detail anything! :)
